Dear Philip, I hope you are keeping well? I am writing to give you the details of the eleventh Chew Valley 10k, which will be on Sunday 11th June 2023 at 9.30am, using Bishop Sutton Village Hall as our Race Headquarters, which I would be grateful if you could forward to Mr Ireland and the other members of West Harptree Parish Council? Details of the road closures are also below (these are the same as in previous years):
1. A368 Wick Road from the junction with Hillside Gardens to the Nine Elms junction at North Widcombe (just after New Manor Farm Shop) for one hour from 09:00 – 10:00.
2. Sutton Hill Road from the top at the crossroad with Stowey Road to the junction with Church Lane from 09:45 – 11:15.
3. Church Lane from the junction with Sutton Hill Road to the junction with High Mead Gardens from 09:45 – 11:15.
4. High Mead Gardens from the junction with Church Lane to the junction and cul-de-sac before Number 10 High Mead Gardens from 09:45 – 11:15.
5. High Mead Gardens from Number 10 and Number 3 opposite to the junction with Parkfield Gardens from 08:00 – 11:15.
6. Parkfield Gardens from the junction with High Mead Gardens to include only house numbers 9,8,7 and 6 from 08:00 – 11:15.
Diversions will be in place on the A368 from Bonhill Road in Bishop Sutton and the Church in West Harptree directing traffic via Chew Stoke and, as in previous years, marshals will be located at these positions, as well as on the running route to direct traffic. There will be signage placed on the affected roads fourteen days prior to the event and we will be writing to every business and have hand-delivered a letter to all residents on the route, including the houses on the A368 in West Harptree in April with all the details.
Our main beneficiaries this year will be Chew Valley School Society, NICU Support and Bishop Sutton School Society and our smaller beneficiary will be Chew Valley Plants Trees. On the entry page, runners can also choose to round up their entry to the nearest pound or more and nominate one of our beneficiaries to receive their donation. Runners can also choose to create a Sportsgiving page to raise sponsorship for one of our beneficiaries at the click of a button – over £1000 has already been donated by entrants, which is fantastic.
The Chew Valley 10K circular route will be the same as in previous years, with the start in between the Football Club and Bishop Sutton Village Hall on Wick Road, then head West through Widcombe and up Coley Hill to Hinton Blewett, along the Upper Road, past the Church and Ring o’ Bells pub, before dropping back down to Bishop Sutton to the finish line on High Mead Gardens.
Our aim has always been to encourage activity and healthy living in our community amongst all ages, whilst having fun and raising much-needed funds for our nominated good causes. This continues to be our intention and is not possible without your support and that of local residents, volunteers and local businesses. We have over twenty 15-18 year olds taking part (a record) and our oldest entrant is 84 years old!
I was wondering if it would be possible to send some text over to include in your June newsletter – if so, would you be able to advise the editor’s contact details please?
On behalf of the Chew Valley 10k team, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and West Harptree Parish Council for your continued support. Should you have any questions or concerns, or if you require any further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
Kind regards,
Denise
On behalf of the Chew Valley 10k team
